Payroll Done Right — Deductions, Remittances and T4s Without the Stress

Trim Tax runs your payroll, remits to the CRA on time and files your year-end slips — so you never face a payroll audit or director's liability for missed remittances.

Payroll compliance is not optional

Source deductions are trust funds. When CPP, EI and income tax withheld from employees are not remitted, the CRA moves faster than on almost any other debt — and directors can be held personally liable under section 227.1 of the Income Tax Act.

Add provincial obligations (WSIB, Ontario Employer Health Tax, BC Employer Health Tax), Records of Employment on Service Canada, taxable benefits and year-end slips, and payroll quickly becomes a compliance function most small businesses are not equipped to run in-house.

Trim Tax gives small and medium employers a reliable payroll function: correct calculations with current-year rates, timely PD7A remittances, pay statements and direct deposit for staff, and clean year-end reporting that reconciles to your general ledger and T2.

Owner salaries, contractors and taxable benefits

Many incorporated owners pay themselves a salary to build RRSP room and CPP entitlement; we run that payroll and coordinate it with your corporate compensation plan. Businesses using contractors need T4A slips (and T5018 in construction) and must manage the risk that a "contractor" is really an employee.

Company vehicles, allowances, group insurance, gifts and stock options create taxable benefits that must be valued and reported. We handle each correctly so nothing surfaces in a later audit.

Frequently asked questions

Most new and small employers are regular remitters, due by the 15th of the month following the pay date. Employers with larger average monthly withholdings move to accelerated (threshold 1 or 2) schedules. We confirm your remitter type and set reminders.
A Pensionable and Insurable Earnings Review is the CRA's check that CPP and EI were deducted correctly on each T4. We respond to PIER letters, correct discrepancies and adjust future payrolls.
Penalties start at 3% for one to three days late and rise to 10% or more, and the CRA can assess directors personally. We bring the account current, file missing T4s, request relief where justified and set up a schedule so it does not recur.
Yes. Many incorporated owners pay a salary to build RRSP and CPP entitlements; we handle the payroll and coordinate with your T2 planning.
T4, T4A and T5 slips and summaries are due the last day of February following the calendar year, filed electronically. Late slips attract per-slip penalties.
The CRA looks at control, ownership of tools, chance of profit, risk of loss and integration. Getting it wrong can mean back CPP and EI plus penalties. We review the arrangement and advise before you set it up.
