Final Returns, Estate and Trust Filings — Handled With Care
Executors and trustees rely on Trim Tax to prepare final returns, estate T3s and clearance certificates correctly, so the estate can be settled without CRA delays or personal liability.
Support for executors, trustees and families
Settling an estate means dealing with the CRA at a difficult time. The deceased's final T1 must report income to the date of death and the deemed disposition of capital property; optional returns can reduce the overall tax; the estate itself becomes a trust that files T3 returns until it is wound up; and the clearance certificate that protects the executor from personal liability cannot be requested until everything else is done.
Each step has rules and deadlines, and mistakes fall on the executor personally. Trim Tax handles the full sequence, coordinates with the estate lawyer, and explains each step in plain language.
Trusts now have annual filing obligations
Since the 2023 taxation year, most express trusts — family trusts, alter-ego and joint partner trusts, testamentary trusts and many bare trust arrangements — must file an annual T3 return with Schedule 15 beneficial ownership information, even when they have no income and would not previously have filed.
Penalties for non-filing are significant. Trim Tax reviews whether your trust is affected, prepares the returns and maintains the beneficial ownership schedule year to year.
